FREDDY MERCURY – BORN TO BE A STAR

Many such musicians dreamed of such frenetic popularity that Freddie Mercury had. Even the legends of rock music considered him an outstanding performer and songwriter. It is no secret that it is much more difficult to achieve recognition among colleagues than to win the love of the public.

He was lucky to be born in the paradise of our planet – on the Zanzibar archipelago. These islands are located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. Farukh Balsara, namely this name was given to a newborn, was born on September 5, 1946.

Then, on the islands, electricity was far from being in every home, so Farukh’s parents could only hear about the events in the world from a neighbor who had a radio. It also helped to know the head of the family that he can give a good education to his son in Bombay, India. There and went in search of a better life. Kashira’s daughter also appeared in the family, and Farukh entered a boarding school on the outskirts of Bombay.

Beginning of the Freddie Mercury’s Way
The school focused on the needs of English-speaking children, instilled in them a love of music and sports. In this case, Farukh succeeded. He liked boxing, cricket and table tennis. He even became a school champion in this sport. And in one of the lessons in music, the teacher noticed special creative abilities in him and the singer Freddie Merkurin wrote a letter to parents proposing to send his son to individual lessons to learn to play the piano for a small additional fee. This enabled the boy to seriously engage in music. Simultaneously with the main classes, he sang in the school choir and never refused to play roles in amateur theatrical productions.

Another hobby of the boy was the musical group The Hectics, which was organized by friends from the school and invited twelve-year-old Farukh Bulsar to join. It was difficult for the pupils of the English boarding school to pronounce his name, and then they transformed him into Freddie. Already at this age, he wrote the first song in his life “I’m Going To The Top”. That was the beginning of his journey to rock music.

Mercury’s future unique musical style was influenced by his stay in India, where he enthusiastically listened to opera music and Indian melodies, and there he found the birth of rock-and-roll.

Hello, England!
After the end of the boarding school, Freddie and his parents returned to Zanzibar, where a difficult test awaited the whole family. In 1964, Great Britain was transferred to the archipelago by singer Freddie Mercury arabian Sultan, and the island became autonomous within Tanzania. A mutiny began in Zanzibar, the Balsar family decided to emigrate to England. At first they lived with distant relatives. Later, having bought a small house, they settled on the outskirts of London.

Freddie’s creative nature required a surge of energy. He was eager to enter an art college. Several years spent in this school strengthened his professionalism and presented him with a meeting with young man Tim Staffell, vocalist of Smile. He infected Freddie with his love of rock music and introduced guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. Together they even managed to release one single.

From “Smile” to “Queen”
Freddie Mercury tried to collaborate with other musical groups (Ibex, Sour Milk Sea), traveled with singer Freddie Mercuryin in small tours and gained experience. But in the spring of 1970, Freddie finally settled in the group Smile, Stafell left there and thus “freed” the place of the vocalist for Mercury. Then he suggested renaming the group and came up with the majestic name Queen.

Thanks to Freddie’s irrepressible desire to become a significant figure in the world of music, the group achieved a contract with EMI, which now became involved in the production and distribution of records, as well as the management of the group. This was the first professional stage, though not the most successful. The debut album did not bring the expected popularity to the children, was even criticized, but did not break their spirit, on the contrary, pushed to a new round of creativity, more conscious. Ahead of them waited for 20 years of lifetime glory.

Researchers of the music claim that the secret of the popularity and success of the Queen group lies in the combination of several styles – heavy metal, disco, hard rock and lyrical ballads.
